HAYS, Kan. -- September 13, 2019 -- The Chadron State College volleyball team improved its team hitting percentage from .182 to ,204 on the season Friday, winning in straight sets over Fort Hays State University for the second consecutive weekend, and picking up a 3-1 win over Newman University to improve to 5-1 on the season.

In the match against tourney host FHSU, Senior Shelby Schouten had the go-ahead kill in set one which gave CSC the lead for good in a 25-19 decision. The Eagles went on a 7-0 run which propelled them to another 25-19 tilt in set two. They then played a tight set three in which they prevailed 25-23.

Later, facing Newman, CSC seized control early in set one, and hammered home a 25-13 win using a late surge of 11 points to one. In the second set they fell behind early, but pushed the Jets to extra points by tying it at 24 apiece before freshman Rylee Greiman offered up the winning kill to make it 27-25. Three straight kills by Newman's Trinity Conley began the third set as she helped her team start out 5-0. The Eagles later recovered from the deficit, but Conley powered her team to the 25-22 win with five kills, a block, and an ace to push the match to 2-1 Eagles. CSC finished out the match by again stepping on the gas late, cruising to a 25-14 set four.
