Moten-Schell, Greiman help Eagles put up solid effort against #7 Colorado School of Mines

Box Score

CHADRON, Neb. -- October 20, 2021 -- The Chadron State College volleyball team (4-14, 2-9 RMAC) was defeated Tuesday night by #7 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (17-2, 10-1 RMAC) in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference clash.

The Eagles put up a valiant fight against one of the best programs in the nation in a game where they lost set one 25-15, lost set two 25-18, won set three 25-22, and lost set four 25-19.

The Eagles came out slow in sets one and two. They briefly held the lead once when they started set two with a score of 4-2. The Orediggers would come back and hold on to the lead to finish out the set and were looking to sweep the Eagles.

Everything changed in set three when the Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the set, with two of those points coming off service aces by setter Breshawna Kelly. The best performers of the set were hitters Olivia Moten-Schell and Rylee Greiman, who each landed five kills. The Eagles would hold the lead for the entire set

The Eagles were able to maintain some of their momentum in set four but were thwarted by the Orediggers who played their best set of the night. Colorado Mines reached a team hit percentage of .324 by landing 16 kills and four errors out of 37 total attempts. Moten-Schell recorded five more kills. Middle hitter Aiyana Fujiyama landed three kills in the set and a team-high five total blocks on the night.

Greiman, who played outside of her usual libero position, had her best match of the season. As a hitter she produced 13 kills, 14 total points, and two total blocks, all of which are season bests.

Defensive specialist Abby Schaefer put up solid numbers in her first start at libero for the Eagles. She came away with 16 total digs and six assists.

"[The] girls did a good job tonight competing against a high-level program," said Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Stadler. "I thought we improved throughout the match and played better as a unit."

CSC will be on the road Friday to face the Regis University Rangers (14-4, 9-1 RMAC) in Denver, Colo.
