Volleyball unable to bounce back in Gunnison

Box Score

GUNNISON, Colo. -- October 2, 2021 -- The Chadron State College volleyball team (3-10, 1-5 RMAC) fell 3-1 to the Western Colorado Mountaineers (8-6, 3-3 RMAC) in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival match Saturday night, losing set one 27-25, winning set two 25-23, and losing sets three and four 25-22 and 25-23.

Although the Eagles were statistically neck and neck with the Mountaineers, the team was unable to close out three of their four sets of the night, losing each by only two points. CSC finished with more blocks (14), services aces (7), and points scored (64).

Multiple Eagles hit personal season highs during the match. Outside hitter Olivia Moten-Schell had six service aces, which was more than all Western Mountaineers had combined (3). The night's leading setter was Devyn Volz, who also hit a season high 19 assists.

Another Eagle who had a big game was outside hitter Amelia Berg. Her 22 digs and five blocks on the night are both personal bests for her this season.

"[The] team really battled this weekend," said Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Stadler. "We made some steps forward. We blocked well and improved our passing game."

The Eagles will return home this weekend to host New Mexico Highlands (5-10, 1-4 RMAC) on Friday and Adams State (7-7, 3-2 RMAC) on Saturday. Friday's match will be the annual Dig Pink Night and Saturday's match will be the Eagles' homecoming game.
