Box Score CHADRON, Neb. -- October 9, 2021 -- The Chadron State College volleyball team (4-11, 2-6 RMAC) secured a 3-2 win over Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Adams State (7-10, 3-5 RMAC) Saturday night in a homecoming match that came down to the wire.
The Adams State Grizzlies attacked first when they won set one 25-14. They held the Eagles to a negative hit percentage while scoring 13 kills and only one error out of 23 total attempts (.522 hit percentage).
CSC quickly turned it around by winning sets two and three 25-23. In set three, they earned 16 kills and three errors on 38 total attempts to get a team hit percentage of .342. Middle hitter Aiyana Fujiyama earned a total of nine kills and only one attack error in those two sets.
The Grizzlies would bounce back to take set four 25-14. Their attacks landed efficiently, earning 11 kills and zero errors.
In a nailbiter of a set five, the Grizzlies had the lead 13-11 and were looking to run away with the win. After a CSC timeout, outside hitter Olivia Moten-Schell landed a kill from a set by setter Audrey Bennett making the score 12-13. Then on a Breshawna Kelly serve, outside hitter Kaydrin Quest stepped up and got a kill on an assist from Kelly to tie the game 13-13. The next Eagle to get a kill from a Kelly assist was outside hitter Alli Keisel. At 14-13, the player to score the match-winning kill was Moten-Schell on a perfectly set ball by Kelly.
Multiple Eagles had season-best performances Saturday night. Olivia Moten-Schell earned a season-high 17 kills on the night. Her previous best was 14, which she just set in Friday's loss to New Mexico Highlands (7-11, 3-5 RMAC).
Another player hitting a season-high was Aiyana Fujiyama. She came away with a total of 13.
Audrey Bennett earned a season-high four services aces during the match
"It was a total team effort tonight," said Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Stadler. "Players really battled, didn't give up, and stayed aggressive. [I'm] proud of how they believed in themselves."
The Eagles will be on the road next weekend to take on MSU Denver (14-2, 8-0 RMAC) and Colorado Christian (7-9, 4-4 RMAC).
