Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. -- November 13, 2021 -- The Chadron State College volleyball team will finish the 2021 season 5-20 overall and 3-15 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference after being swept 25-16, 25-13, and 25-18 Saturday night by Black Hills State (8-18, 5-13 RMAC).
The Eagles will finish 14th out of 15 teams in the RMAC, tying for last place with the Westminster Griffins (5-23, 3-15 RMAC). Outright clinching the conference crown was #1 MSU Denver (24-2, 18-0 RMAC), who went on an 18-match winning streak after starting the season 2-2. They will play host for the RMAC tournament set for November 16th, 19th, and 20th.
Saturday's match in Spearfish consisted of numerous errors committed by the Eagles throughout the set. They finished with 20, which is one less than Friday's match against South Dakota Mines (12-14, 6-12 RMAC). In set one, Chadron State landed 11 kills and six errors out of 38 total attempts for a match best .132 hitting percentage. Amber Harvey scored three kills while Rylee Greiman, Amelia Berg, and Aiyana Fujiyama each had two.
Set two featured a tie-ball game at 11-11 before the Yellow Jackets went on a six-point run to make it 17-11. They would go on to score eight of the next 10 points scored off kills by Mariah Robinson, Jessica Crane, and Madison Hoopman.
In the final set of the match, the Eagles kept it competitive throughout the set. Greiman had three kills and Berg and Fujiyama each put up a block assist. Their efforts were unfortunately for naught as Black Hills State's offense unleashed 15 kills out of 35 total attempts to win the set.
"We saw some great moments out of this team this year, but our inconsistency set to set and match to match created our inability to win matches," said Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Stadler. "We are losing some good players that have been assets to this program and hopefully we can grow and learn from this season and come back stronger."
