CHADRON, Neb. -- November 21, 2021 -- The Chadron State College women's basketball team (1-3, 0-0 RMAC) earned their first victory of the season Sunday afternoon over NAIA opponent Mount Marty (0-6, 0-0 GPAC). 

With a final score of 68-48, the Eagles snapped their 17-game losing streak which spanned back to the end of the 2019-20 season. They will be looking to add more wins to their record this season with RMAC conference play right around the corner. 

The Lancers and the Eagles kept the score tight in the first half, which finished 29-24 Eagles. Jori Peters had two deep three-pointers and Ashayla Powers landed two jump shots in the paint in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Bailey Brooks put up two field goals, three rebounds, and a steal. Though the Lancers briefly held the lead at 15-14 late in the first quarter, the Eagles took it right back and never gave it up for the rest of the game 

The Eagles' offense turned on the jets in the second half by outscoring Mount Marty 39-24. They shot best in the fourth quarter, going 41.2% on field goals (7-17), 40% on three-pointers (2-5), and 83.3% on free throws (5-6) 

The Eagles shot 35.4% on field goals (23-65), 29.2% on three-pointers (7-24), and 68.2% on free throws (15-22) while the Lancers shot 26.8% on field goals (15-56), 27.3% on three-pointers (6-22) and 70.6% on free throws (12-17) 

Leading the Eagles to their victory was senior guard Jori Peters. Peters accounted for team-highs of 22 points, eight field goals, four three-pointers, five assists, and three steals. She went 2-4 on free throws and spent 34 total minutes on the court. 

"The team has been working hard to improve and we showed tonight that we have taken a step forward," said Head Coach Janet Raymer. "It was really nice to play at home." 

Chadron State will travel Monday to Laramie Wyo. for an exhibition game against the Wyoming Cowgirls at 6:30 p.m. They will wrap up non-conference play when they travel to Kearney, Neb. to take on the Lopers (3-1, 0-0 MIAA) Saturday afternoon.
