HASTINGS, Neb. -- January 8, 2022 -- Aided by an addition to the roster at semester, the Chadron State College women's wrestling program picked up its first-ever dual win on Saturday, besting NAIA squad Avila University of Kansas City 19-15 in a dual format.

The Eagles also faced the No. 2-ranked Umpqua Community College, a junior college out of Oregon, and fell 42-7.

"We really brought it for our dual against Avila," said CSC Head Women's Wrestling Coach Alijah Jeffery. "It took everyone getting behind their teammates to have success. The first win in Chadron State women's wrestling history is a huge achievement, and this team is only going to get better. We're really excited to see what tomorrow brings."

CSC gave up 30 points to open weight classes in its dual against Umpqua. Only four spots were contested.

Taylor Lindstrom fell in 2:09 to No. 7 Violeta Evangelista, at 101 pounds. At 109, Kinsey Smith gave up a tech fall to Hinda Doucure, scoring a point in the process. Moving ahead to 143, CSC's Karstin Hollen earned one point in a 10-2 decision for Umpqua's Madeline Riboli. Finally, Kamila Montenegro earned the Eagles' only win in the dual, pinning Aracely Rendon-Gomez after going up 10-6.

CSC was more equally arrayed against the Eagles of Avila University. Both Eagles sides picked up one forfeit, five bouts were held, and three places were uncontested.

Zoey Mzeru, ranked fourth in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference scored first for her team with a pin in 2:44 over CSC's Taylor Lindstrom. Ryleigh Dye, who just arrived on CSC's campus this month, returned the favor at 143 pounds, pinning Kai Morrison, her league's fifth-ranked wrestler, in 3:32. Karstin Hollen put CSC up 14-10 with a 10-0 tech over Avila's Jessica Miller at 155 pounds. Susana Mondragon of Avila moved up from 155 to 170, where she pinned CSC's Jeslyn Jindra, who also wrestled up a class, in 1:45, to give her team a brief lead. Both CSC's Kamila Montenegro and Avila's Raziyah Thomas, ranked No. 20 in the NAIA, moved up to 191 pounds, where Montenegro earned her second fall of the day to secure the dual win for CSC.

Montenegro is now 12-4 on the season.

CSC remains in Hastings on Sunday for an open tournament. Three ranked NAIA teams, as well as three others receiving votes, are set to compete. In addition No. 2 Umpqua Community College is in attendance.
