Griffins best Eagles on Saturday

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – October 29, 2022 – The Chadron State College volleyball team lost in three sets on Saturday afternoon against Westminster College (21-25, 15-25, 26-28). The Eagles fell to 7-18 overall, and 5-11 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while Westminster improved to 4-12 (6-18 RMAC).  

CSC started off hot in the first set, scoring the first five points. The Griffins were able to come back and take the lead from the Eagles at 10-9. CSC took the lead back from the Griffins at 13-12 from a Mayson Fago kill.  
 
Westminster was able to tie the game at 19 apiece off an Avery Alger kill. From there, the Griffins went on a run to go up by three at 17-20. The Eagles did not back down, as they fought back and tied the set at 20 all. From there, the Griffins scored the next five of the six points scored in the set, to capture the 25th point. 
 
The second set started off with both teams trading points. An 8-1 run allowed the Griffins to separate themselves from the Eagles in the set. The Eagles were able to scrape across 15 points in the set before the Griffins scored their 25th off a Mailei Myers kill. 

The third set opened with the Griffins jumping out to an early 4-1 lead. The Eagles went on a 4-1 run to tie the game at 5-5. The Griffins were able to get their lead to 19-12, but CSC was able to tie the set at 24-24. The Griffins were narrowly able to score the two points needed to capture the win..

CSC had a good bounce back from its previous offensive performance as they hit .175 on the night.

Fago had the second best with a .313. Fujiyama had her second straight match hitting .300 or better hitting .300.
  
CSC also improved in total kills with 34 recorded by the team. Fago led the team in kills with eight, while Amber Harvey and Bella Adams both had six. Hurtado, and Fujiyama added five of their own.

Rylee Greiman, and Abby Schaefer led the back half of the defense as expected as they recorded 12, and 10 digs respectively. The team totaled 41 on the night.
  
At the net, CSC totaled five blocks, led by Natali Keni, and Adams with two each. The other block came from Harvey to round out the five blocks. 

The Eagles will be back home next week as they host South Dakota Mines, on Friday November 4, and Black Hills State on Saturday November 5, which is senior night.
