CHADRON, Neb. -- November 12, 2022 -- The Chadron State College women's basketball team lost to Texas A&M International (73-46), on Saturday afternoon of opening weekend at the Chicoine Center.  

The Eagles opened the first quarter, getting most of their points off free throws. CSC went 7-8 at the line with Samiyah Worrell, Kyra Tanabe, Kadyn Comer, and Ashayla Powers all contributing at the line. The Eagles struggled shooting from the field in the first quarter, totaling 11 points and shooting 16.67%. Besides the free throws, Ashayla Powers added to the total with multiple lay-ups.

CSC started to gain a little momentum in the second quarter by scoring the first two points on a jumper from Powers in the paint off an assist from Worrell. The momentum was back and forth the entire second quarter with both teams going on runs. The Eagles improved from the first quarter as they shot 31.25% from the field and added 15 points.  

The third quarter saw both teams struggling to get going. The Dust Devils outscored the Eagles 12-8. CSC struggled the most, shooting 2-of-17 from the field. The Eagles went 4-7 from the free throw line. 

The fourth quarter was key for TAMIU as they scored 21 points, while shooting close to 62%. The Eagles went 3-10 from the field going 30%. The Eagles did get their next and last three from Liberty Line.  

TAMIU got their lead up to 20 after a jumper from Angelique Morgan in the paint. They didn't allow the Eagles to come any closer. CSC cut the lead down to 21 after that, but TAMIU pushed the lead and final score difference of 27.   

The Eagles struggled to get points in the paint as they were only able to scrape across 20 compared to TAMIU's 48. TAMIU added 20 points off the Eagles turnovers while CSC added 8.  

The Eagles shot 21.8% from the field. Powers led her team with 18 points while shooting 7-12 from the field. Worrell added seven points while shooting 1-5 on the night. Worrell went 4-7 from the line though.  

Powers also led the way in rebounds with six, as the team totaled 37 on the night.  

Awoti Akoi had the team's only two blocks on the night, while Powers had three steals. Comer added two steals to help the team total seven.  

The Eagles will be at home again for the next two games, hosting Wayne State on Wednesday, and Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday.
