INDIANAPOLIS -- Mason Watt and Quen Campbell both received runner-up honors while
Quade Smith finished fourth at the 44
th Annual Midwest Classic in Indianapolis on Sunday.

The Eagles finished 8th in the team standings with 90.5 points. Lander, the nations #1 ranked team, won the team title with 126 points.

In the 125-pound semifinals, Christian Mejia from McKendree led over Smith 4-0 entering the final period. Smith scored an early escape but Mejia quickly scored another three-point takedown on way to winning with an 8-3 decision.

Smith quickly answered with a pin in 2:10 against Luke Acuna from Ashland in the consolation bracket. His next opponent was a familiar one in Shane Corrigan from Wisconsin-Parkside. Smith defeated Corrigan in the quarterfinals with a 4-2 decision but this time, Smith's was defeated 13-2, placing him fourth.

Campbell opened his day with an exciting 12-4 decision over Tommy Frezza from Central Missouri in the 133-pound semis. Frezza scored an early takedown but Campbell quickly had a reversal that resulted in two nearfall points. Frezza managed to escape for his final points of the match in which Campbell recorded two more takedowns.

After defeating the defending national champion at 133 pounds yesterday, Gabe Hixenbaugh of Montevallo waited for Campbell in the finals. Entering the third period, Campbell trailed 4-1. Being his choice, the Tifton Georgia native chose bottom and quickly escaped to make the score 4-2. With 20 seconds left, Campbell went for the match winning takedown but Hixenbaugh countered and scored a takedown of his own with two nearfall points to win 9-2.

In perhaps one of the most exciting matches of the tournament, Watt defeated Braden Morgan of Central Oklahoma 2-1 in overtime three of the 285-pound semifinals. Tied at 0's, Morgan chose bottom to start the second period and quickly scored an escape. Watt managed to do the same in the third period to tie the match at one.

Neither wrestler scored points in overtime one before Watt started on bottom and scored an escape in overtime two. In the third and final overtime, Morgan chose neutral position but was unable to score a takedown, giving Watt the 2-1 victory.

In the heavyweight finals, Isaiah Vance from Pitt-Johnstown scored a takedown and two reversals to lead 7-0 with 30 seconds remaining. Watt scored one escape point in the final thirty seconds but suffered a 7-1 defeat in the finals.

In Sunday's consolation brackets,
Torry Early was defeated in his first match at 149 pounds and
Logan Berger suffered an 8-4 decision at 174.
