DENTON, Texas -- The Chadron State College Women's Wrestling team fell to Schreiner College 28-20 and lost due to criteria, 23-23, against Texas Women's University, Saturday in Denton, Texas.
Kamila Montenegro, a senior from Las Vegas, Nevada, led to team by going 2-0 at 191 pounds.
Against Texas Women's University, CSC's four victories were by
Mana Chanthasone,
Cassandra Witte, Ana Rojas Zamora and Montenegro.
Chanthasone, a freshman from Liberal, Kansas won by forfeit to earn an early five points for CSC. Two matches later, Witte, a freshman from Rapid City, South Dakota, pinned her opponent in 1:03 to give the Eagles an early 10-3 match lead.
At 123 pounds, a 10-0 techfall by Rojas Zamora, a sophomore from Sweeny, Texas gave Chadron State a 14-3 lead.
Texas Women's University proceeded to win the following five matches, three by tech fall, one by decision and one by forfeit at 170 pounds.
Within the first 42 seconds of Montenegro's match, she earned 10 points to receive the tech fall.
Due to scoring in every match and other scoring criteria, CSC earned enough points to tie the match at 23 but lost due to winning four total matches compared to their opponents six.
Against Schreiner,
Brianna Vollendroff,
Annika Lee,
Emma Meadows and Montenegro all earned points for their team.
Vollendroff, a sophomore from Oroville, California and Lee, a freshman from Olympia, Washington, both won by forfeit.
Meadows, a freshman from Roseville, California, pinned her opponent at 155 pounds to earn five team points.
Montenegro also won by fall. Due to technical difficulties, times were unavailable.
Schreiners 28 team points came from three falls, two tech falls and one forfeit.
Chadron State returns home on Sunday, December 10 when they host Minot State and Adams State.
