Eagle softball shutout on day two

CHADRON, Neb. -- March 20, 2023 -- The Colorado School of Mines Orediggers softball team allowing only two total hits and defeated CSC 7-0 and 9-0 in a pair of games, Monday in Chadron.
 
The victories give the visitors a 3-1 series win over Chadron State.
 
In the Orediggers 7-0 victory, they scored one run in the fourth inning and added six in the fifth inning.
 
A Lexie Semeyn single would drive in the first run of the game. CSC was able to get out of the inning without any more damage as the Orediggers left two runners on base.
 
In the fifth inning, a flurry of singles kept advancing runners for Colorado School of Mines. The team would have six runs on five hits, while leaving one runner on base.
 
After four straight singles, three including RBI's, CSC had Kenzi Garner replace starting pitcher Tori Haug. Haug received the loss for CSC.
 
Semeyn was the first batter Garner faced. She singled to right field, scoring two runs for the Orediggers with zero outs.
 
A fielder's choice advanced two runners into scoring position before another fielder's choice scored the seventh and final run of the game.
 
Sadriena Rodriguez pitch a complete game victory for the visitors. She allowed only one hit, struck out ten and walked two batters.
 
CSC finished the loss with three errors, while Mines had one. Colorado School of Mines finished the game with nine hits.
 
In game two, Chadron State had only three total base runners and one hit in the game.
 
Jessi Henchenski recorded the only hit with a single in the bottom of the 2nd. She also drew a walk in the game, along with Kroll.
 
Six of the opponents runs occurred in the top of the fourth inning. They had seven hits and the CSC had two errors during the Oredigger rally.
 
Like game one, a flurry of singles helped Colorado School of Mines score the runs. All seven of the hits were singles, four including one RBI and one including two RBI's.
 
Grace Gonzales added a three-run homerun in the top of the seventh for the Orediggers, making the score 9-0.
 
Three different pitchers saw action for CSC, with Delaney Farnsworth recording the loss. In 3.2 innings, she allowed nine hits while striking out one batter.
 
Taylor Wayne pitched the complete game victory while allowing only one hit, like Rodriguez. She walked two batters and struck out three.
 
The losses drop CSC's record to 8-19 overall and 6-14 in conference play. The Orediggers improve to 11-15 overall and 10-10 in the RMAC.
 
Chadron State is back in action at home on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26, as they play host to Colorado Mesa.
