COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- May 16, 2023 -- Kyla Sawvell was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year and nine of her teammates found a spot on the all-conference teams, the conference office announced today.

Along with being the Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, Sawvell was a first teamer in discus, hammer throw and shot put.
Â
Sawvell, a native of Wall, South Dakota, was a top three finisher in each of the events at the RMAC Outdoor Championships held in Chadron in April.

She threw the shotput 14.58m, good for third place. A toss of 44.22m placed her second in discus and she won the hammer throw with a throw of 57.28m.

Sawvell is currently ranked second nationally in the hammer throw and sixth in shotput.
Â
While Sawvell was the only Eagle to find a spot on the women's all-conference first team,
Carlie Collier and
Destiny Pelton both earned nods for the second team.

Collier, a junior from Dunning, Nebraska, ran the 200m dash in 25.38 seconds at the RMAC Championships, good enough for sixth place.
Â
Pelton, a sophomore from Fort Morgan, Colorado, cleared 1.56 meters in the high jump, placing her sixth and earning her a spot on the second team.

The Chadron State men's track and field team had three athletes named to the all-conference first team and four to the second team.

After winning the hammer throw at the conference championships with a throw of 60.31m,
Shane Collins was named to the first team.
Â
Collins, a junior from Bison, South Dakota, is currently ranked 17
th nationally in the event and should be qualifying for nationals.
Â
Creighton Trembly, a junior from Longmont, Colorado, was named to the first team after finishing second in the 110m hurdles at the conference championships.

The final first team selection for Chadron State was sophomore
Hector Ortega in the high jump. Ortega, from Northglenn, Colorado, tied for third at the outdoor championships after clearing 1.99m.

Eagles finding a spot on the second team are
Logan Peila,
Parker Gonser,
Harley Rhoades and
Kaden Dower.

Rhoades and Dower both earned their all-conference honors in the Decathlon. Rhoades, a senior from Douglas, Wyoming, finished fourth with 6261 points while Dower, a sophomore from Riverton, Wyoming, was sixth with 5386 points.

Peila, a junior from Miles City, Montana, finished fourth in the 400m at the conference championships with a time of 54.88 seconds.

Rounding out the men's all-conference team for Chadron State was Gonser in the discus throw. Gonser, a junior from Windsor, Colorado, threw 48.09m, good enough for fifth place three weeks ago.

Sierra Arceneaux of Colorado Mesa was named the Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year while Miguel Coca of Adams State was selected for the men.

Colorado Mesa also had the Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year with Dawson Heide.

Western Colorado swept both freshmen of the year awards. Allison Beasley was selected on the women's side while Tyler Nord won it for the men.

Ross Fellows of UCCS was named the RMAC Outdoor Coach of the Year after guiding his teams to RMAC Championships on the men's and women's side.
