CHADRON, Neb. -- The Chadron State College women's wrestling team began 2024 with a 41-5 dual victory over York University in the Chicoine Center Saturday afternoon.
Only six matches were wrestled in the dual but CSC was victorious in all of them. The Eagles received forfeit victories at 123 pounds, 155 pounds and 170 pounds. The Panther's five team points were scored by forfeit at 136 pounds.
Chadron State did not give up a single point or takedown during the live matches.
At 101 pounds,
Mana Chanthasone, a freshman from Liberal Kansas, used a takedown, three rolls and one exposure to tech fall her opponent 10-0.
The first of two falls of the day occurred by
Britley Lopez at 109 pounds. After trailing 2-0 and being brought back to neutral, Lopez, a sophomore from Borger, Texas, used a four-point slam that resulted in a pin in 2:31.
Chadron State's usual 109-pound wrestler,
Brianna Vollendroff, a sophomore from Oroville, California, filled in at 116 pounds where she won with a 12-0 tech fall in 2:15.
The Eagles earned two more tech fall victories at 130 and 143 pounds, both in the first round.
Annika Lee, a freshman from Olympia, Washington won 12-0 in 2:52 while
Karstin Hollen, a junior from Mesa, Arizona, won 10-0 in 1:45 at 143 pounds.
The final match of the day was senior
Kamila Montenegro's only match in the Chicoine Center this season. Montenegro, a senior from Las Vegas, Nevada pinned her opponent in 1:13.
A group of women's wrestlers will compete at the Hastings Open in Hastings, Nebraska tomorrow at 8 a.m.
