Pinkerton Wins RMAC Wrestler of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After opening his CSC career with a tournament win during last weekend's DWU Open, Chadron State heavyweight wrestler Cody Pinkerton is the latest RMAC Wrestler of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.

Pinkerton becomes the second Wrestler of the Week for the 2024-25 season after Simon Fraser's Magnus McCrackin won it last week, but this was the first opportunity for any Eagle wrestlers to take home the award after Chadron State opened its season by competing in Mitchell, South Dakota at the DWU Open last Saturday.

A transfer from Northwest College, a junior college in Wyoming, Pinkerton was dominant in his first action as a CSC Eagle. Competing in the 285-pound division, Pinkerton stormed to the title by winning four matches in comfortable fashion.

Pinkerton defeated South Dakota State's Regan Bollweg by fall in 2:59 in the first round, won his second-round match 16-1 by tech fall over Ridgewater College's Tucker Hugg, beat Northern State's Ayden Viox by 9-3 decision in the quarterfinal and defeated Iowa Western's Orion Parker by fall in 2:10 in the semifinal.

Pinkerton was due to face off against teammate Mason Villwok in the final, but a medical forfeit in the championship bout by Villwok handed Pinkerton the tournament win.

Chadron State wrestling fans can get a look at the wrestling team this Friday during the Eagles' intersquad Black & Cardinal Classic, when up to 10 exhibition matches between CSC wrestlers will be contested. The event is due to start at 6 p.m. in the Chicoine Center.

Official competition for CSC will resume on November 23, when the Eagles take part in the UNK Younes Hospitality Open in Kearney. Chadron State's first home wrestling dual is January 17 against Colorado Mesa.
