CHADRON, Neb. – The Chadron State women's wrestling program will test themselves in one of the largest women's wrestling opens in the country this weekend, as the Eagles compete in the Missouri Valley Open this Friday and Saturday, hosted by Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri.
A total of 49 universities will compete at the two-day event. It will be the final opportunity for Eagle wrestlers to impress and earn a spot in CSC's dual lineup, with Chadron State hosting four duals on December 6 at home in the Chicoine Center.

Fresh Faces
Balcazar wasn't the only freshman to make an impact early for CSC. Freshman
Alissa DuBois (160 pounds) and
Esther Peters (207 pounds) both wrestled in the varsity weight class at the Simpson College Open and figure to be in the Eagles' lineup.
Another freshman,
Ella Shevlin, went 4-2 in the "freshman/sophomore" class of the 180-pound division in Iowa.
Currently, over half the Eagles roster are freshmen, with 15 first-year student-athletes compared to three sophomores, seven juniors and a lone senior (
Karstin Hollen) for head coach Taylor Summers' squad.
National Rankings
Chadron State's
Mana Chanthasone, a national qualifier last season, remains ranked at No. 20 in the nation at 103 pounds according to The Open Mat's national rankings. Chanthasone is currently the only CSC wrestler with a national ranking.
The RMAC features two teams in the national tournament rankings and dual rankings. The tournament rankings have Colorado Mesa at No. 8 and Simon Fraser at No. 22, while the dual rankings have Colorado Mesa at No. 6 and Simon Fraser at No. 10.

Coach's Corner
Head Coach Taylor Summers will begin his second season at the helm of Chadron State Women's Wrestling program in 2024.
In his first year in charge, Summers had an overall dual record of 8-5 and had four wrestlers qualify for the NCWWC National Championships. Previously, Summers was an assistant men's wrestling coach at RMAC member Western Colorado for five seasons, where he helped coach nine All-Americans.
A former student-athlete for Chadron State, Summers began his coaching career at CSC as a men's assistant during the 2017-18 season. As a student-athlete, Summers won an RMAC title and qualified for nationals in 2016.
Summers is assisted by Samuel deSeriere and Giovanni Cassioppi, who also are both in their second seasons at Chadron State.
