Three Eagles finish second at RMAC Championships

DENVER, Colo. -- The Chadron State College women's wrestling team is coming home with three silver and three bronze medals after competing at the first annual Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Wrestling Championships in Denver, Colorado on Saturday. 

Mana Chanthasone at 101 pounds, Ana Rojas-Zamora at 123 pounds and Kamila Montenegro at 191 pounds all finished second in the tournament. 

Britley Lopez, Karstin Hollen and Maria Arellano each finished third in their respective weight classes. 

Chanthasone, a freshman from Liberal, Kansas finished in second place with a record of 0-1 at 101 pounds. The freshman received a first round bye which automatically placed her in the championship. The weight classes champion, Jennesis Martinez of Colorado Mesa, defeated Chanthasone with a 10-0 tech fall in the championship match. Martinez defeated Lopez, a sophomore from  Borger, Texas in the semifinals, placing Lopez third. 

In a field of eight wrestlers, Brianna Vollendroff and Heavynne Robles-Wright both competed at 109 pounds. 

Robles-Wright, a sophomore from Las Cruces, New Mexico went 2-2 to place fourth while Vollendroff, a sophomore from Oroville, California finished 1-3 to place fifth. 

At 116 pounds, Cassandra Witte, a freshman from Rapid City, South Dakota, finished in fifth place. 

CSC's second silver medalist occurred at 123 pounds by the defending RMAC wrestler of the week, Rojas-Zamora. The sophomore from Sweeny, Texas used a fall and tech fall to reach the championship match, which she fell to Hania Halverson of Colorado Mesa in. Shania Wear, a sophomore from Gothenburg, Nebraska and the RMAC Summit Award winner, placed sixth in the bracket. 

The Eagles were open at 130 pounds but had Annika Lee, a freshman from Olympia, Washington, place fourth with a record of 1-2 at 136. 

A junior from Mesa, Arizona, Hollen used two tech falls and a pin to finish 3-1, earning CSC's second bronze medal of the day at 143 pounds. 

Chadron State's lone wrestler at 155 pounds was Emma Meadows, a freshman from Roseville, California. Meadows placed fifth in the tournament with a record of 1-2. 

Arellano, a sophomore from Fresno, California, recorded a pin in the third place match after being defeated in the semifinals to finish with a bronze medal. 

The last placer of the day for the Eagles was Montenegro at 191 pounds. The senior from Las Vegas earned a 10-0 tech fall victory in the semifinals before suffering a 5-0 defeat in the championship match. 

Overall, CSC finished fourth in the team standings with 100.5 points. Colorado Mesa won the conference's first women's wrestling team title with 182.5 points.
