PUEBLO, Colo. – Led once again by promising freshman
Klara Kleinig, Chadron State women's golf shot 48-over 336 as a team to sit in 12
th place after the first round of the Southern Colorado Open, hosted by CSU Pueblo at the Walking Stick Golf Course.
The Eagles are just one stroke behind 11
th-place Garden City, the No. 15-ranked junior college team in the country, and seven strokes behind 10
th-place South Dakota Mines. Chadron State has a five-stroke cushion on Black Hills State for 13
th place.
New Mexico JC, the No. 5-ranked juco team in the nation, leads the team standings by four strokes over Simon Fraser and six strokes over hosts CSU Pueblo. Two more RMAC opponents, Colorado Christian and Colorado Mesa, are tied for fourth eight strokes back.
Klara Kleinig, a native of Germany who attended high school in Kansas, led CSC by carding an 8-over-par 80. Kleinig is in a tie for 41
st place out of an 84-golfer field.
Two other Eagles, the team's two juniors, are in the field's top 60.
Aubree Heinsma shot 11-over 83 with a round that featured two birdies while
Payton Wise shot 12-over 84.
The other CSC scoring golfers were
Maggie Teague with a 17-over 89 and
Allison Sanger with a 29-over 101.
Brooklyn Tychsen competed as an individual and shot 20-over 92.
Like round one, round two of the tournament will feature a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. Kleinig will start on hole 10, Wise and Heinsma will start on hole 11 while Sanger and Teague will start on hole 12. Tychsen will tee off on hole 14.
