LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Chadron State turned in the eighth-highest team score out of 10 competing programs on day two of the SMSU Challenge, dropping one slot to seventh place at the conclusion of the two-day event.
Friday's round concludes CSC women's golf's weeklong trip to Arizona. The Eagles had a strong performance early in the week, finishing fourth out of 13 programs at the SMSU Spring Invite before Thursday and Friday's tournament.
Senior
Aubree Heinsma, competing as an individual, was Chadron State's top golfer on the leaderboard, finishing one stroke outside the top 10 in a tie for 11
th place. Heinsma shot an 82 on Friday after her round-one 77.
Freshman
Macy Kleve was Chadron State's leader among scoring golfers, shooting a round of 10-over-par 80 on Friday. Paired with her round of 81 on Thursday, Kleve placed 17
th in a 62-golfer field at 21-over 161.
Klara Kleinig and
Lauren Knapp tied for 26
th place with one another at 26-over. Kleinig shot one stroke better than Knapp on Friday, carding 14-over 84 compared to Knapp's 85, undoing the one-stroke advantage Knapp had entering Friday's round.
Chadron State's final scoring golfer was sophomore
Allison Sanger, who finished tied for 41
st place at 34-over 174.
Payton Wise placed tied for 46
th at 36-over 176. Both Sanger and Wise unfortunately tumbled down the order after both shooting 81s on Thursday, as Sanger carded a 93 while Wise turned in a 95.
Chadron State's other individual, sophomore
Brooklyn Tychsen, had CSC's co-best round alongside Kleve with her 10-over-par 80 on Friday. That allowed Tychsen to shoot 18 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 28
th place at 27-over 165 for the tournament.
In the team standings, Chadron State finished at 106-over-par 666 as a team. The Eagles were four strokes behind sixth-place Fort Hays State and seven strokes behind fifth-place Rockhurst. Colorado Mesa won the event at 55-over, with the Mavericks taking the crown by 11 strokes over Augustana and MSU Denver, Minnesota-Crookston and Rockhurst rounding out the top five.
The Eagles have nine days until their next competition, when CSC participates in the Southern Colorado Open hosted by CSU Pueblo on Sunday, March 22-Monday, March 23.
