COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Shania Wear kept up her annual tradition of taking home the RMAC's top academic honor as she was named as the RMAC Women's Wrestling Summit Award winner for the third consecutive year.
Wear, a senior from Gothenburg, Nebraska, has won the award in all three years that the RMAC has officially sponsored women's wrestling, making her still the only recipient in the award's history.
The RMAC's Summit Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the finals site of their respective sport's championship. Summit Award winners must compete in 20 percent of available competitions throughout the current season. All GPAs are based on a straight-grading scale to ensure consistency among nominees. All ties are broken by the total number of credit hours completed through the most recently concluded semester.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be sophomores or above and have participated in their sport at their institution for at least two years. They must also be active members of their teams and travel to and compete at the RMAC championship event.
Wear has a perfect 4.0 GPA through 116 completed credit hours as a physical sciences major. She was presented with the award on Saturday at the RMAC Women's Wrestling Championships, where she is competing in the 117-pound weight class. On the mat, Wear has an 11-10 record entering the RMAC Championships and has suited up in nine competitions for Chadron State this season.
Wear is the first Chadron State athlete to win a Summit Award this season. Chadron State had three Summit Award winners, including Wear, in 2024-25.
