CHADRON, Neb. – Brianna Vollendroff and
Shania Wear (twice) earned Senior Night wins as Chadron State women's wrestling defeated Fort Hays Tech NW 24-14 in CSC's final dual and home event of the 2025-26 season.
Prior to the match-up, the Eagle women's wrestling program honored five seniors –
Hattie Baldwin,
Alissa DuBois,
Maddox Gehlhausen, Vollendroff and Wear – for their contributions to the program.
Wednesday night's match against Fort Hays Tech NW was a bit unique. Chadron State's opponent did not lack for quality, with two wrestlers ranked among the top five nationally at the junior college level, but they did lack for depth, as the Tigers have an interim head coach and just six student-athletes on their roster. All six of those athletes competed, and three of them wrestled twice in exhibition matches after the official dual.
From Chadron State's perspective, the Eagles prioritized getting matches for their seniors, with all four healthy graduating wrestlers competing and much of CSC's starting lineup sitting out ahead of the NCAA regional tournament in 10 days.
The two schools double-forfeited at 103 as
Brianna Vollendroff, the RMAC champion at that weight, moved up to 110 pounds to have a Senior Night opponent. The higher weight class didn't faze the California native as she tech-falled FHNW's Juliet Baca.
The Eagles picked up a forfeit at 117 before Wear, a three-time Summit Award winner for having the conference's highest GPA, pinned her opponent at 124 pounds in just 28 seconds to give the Eagles another five.
Fort Hays Tech NW earned wins at 131, 138 and 180. Senior night honoree
Maddox Gehlhausen lost at 131 before nationally ranked juco wrestlers Lindsay Henggeler and Caroline Purcell topped CSC's
Nevaeh Leonard and
Cosette Desrosiers, respectively.
Senior night honoree
Hattie Baldwin earned a forfeit win in the dual at 145, then wrestled in an exhibition and lost to the double-dipping Henggeler.
Esther Peters, the No. 9-ranked 207-pounder in the NCAA, punctuated the official dual with a 41-second pin of her opponent.
Chadron State was victorious in the other two exhibitions, which didn't count for team points. True freshman
Isabella Crown, a two-sport athlete with women's wrestling and softball at CSC, made her dual debut for the Eagles after competing in four opens and earned an 8-2 decision win.
Wear then took to the mat again and earned a second Senior Night pin, this time taking 1:59 to end the match by fall.
The Eagles compete next at the NCAA Regionals in Lindenwood, Missouri on February 21-22, the first time that women's wrestling postseason will be run by the NCAA.
