CHADRON, Neb. — Outdoor track and field season will kick off this weekend with Chadron State hosting a track meet March 20 and 21.
CSC's meet will be on Friday and is free to attend. Field events will begin at 9 a.m. with running events following at 9:30. Limited bleachers will be available. The weather forecast predicts the weekend will be between 70 and 80 degrees.
The meet will be the first on the Chadron State track since it was initiated in 2023 by hosting the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Championships.
The meet will primarily feature athletes from Chadron State and South Dakota Mines, along with a few competitors from Black Hills State. Three Hardrocker athletes won firsts at the recent RMAC indoor meet.
Chadron State had two RMAC champions, both in the triple jump with Chayton Bynes on the men's side and Camila Salvucci on the women's side. Bynes was the bronze medalist in the triple jump at the National Championships in Virginia this past Saturday.
There will be other highlights in the meet, particularly in the men's sprints, where the Eagles will showcase standout athletes like Ryan Clapper, Christopher Cormier, Ayden Hartzell, Esosa Iyengunmwena and Kadin Perez, all of whom placed at the RMAC Indoor Championships.
Clapper set the Eagles' 200-meter indoor record at the RMAC Indoor Meet and Clapper, as well as Cormier and Hartzell, are among the top five all-time in the 400 indoors.
Saturday, Chadron State will host a high school track meet with the field events starting at 10 a.m. and the running events following an hour later. The high school track meet will be free to attend and have limited bleachers available.
