CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State triple jumper
Chayton Bynes took home the first RMAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honor of 2025-26 after his record-breaking leap from CSC's initial outdoor meet this past weekend.
Bynes jumped 15.73 meters (51 feet, 7.25 inches) last Friday at the Con Marshall Early Bird Meet held in Chadron. It was Bynes's first competition outdoors in 2025-26 after the Chadron native capped the indoor season with a third-place finish at the Division II Indoor National Championships and All-American honors.
The junior's mark is the farthest in Division II outdoors this season, 1.5 inches ahead of the second-farthest mark. Bynes's leap would rank No. 5 in Division I at this point of the outdoor season.
For Chadron State, Bynes broke his own school record and personal best, which previously sat at 15.54 meters (51 feet) and also shattered the existing facility record for Chadron State's home track.
Bynes has two career Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors from the RMAC, but this marks his first outdoor weekly honor. Alongside Bynes, the Colorado Mesa 4x100 relay team were named Track Athletes of the Week.
The Chadron State track and field program will next compete at the Central Nebraska Challenge this weekend, hosted by Nebraska-Kearney.
