Team Stack Wins 2026 Don Beebe Golf Classic in Playoff

CHADRON, Neb. – It took three holes of a playoff, but a winner finally emerged at the 2026 edition of the Don Beebe Golf Classic, a Chadron State Athletics fundraiser held at the Ridgeview Country Club.

Chadron State professor and former CSC softball coach Robert Stack, along with sons Riley Stack and Jayden Stack and son-in-law Blake Miller, finished in first place after making three on hole No. 3 of extra golf. They defeated a group consisting of Brett Hunter, Tim Clayton, Clint Hulbert and Darren Drabbels in the playoff after both groups shot 116 across 36 holes.

The Hunter/Clayton/Hulbert/Drables quartet were the field's best on day two, carding a 57 on Sunday after a first-round 59 on Saturday. Team Stack shot a Saturday-best 56, then shot 60 on Sunday in regulation to force a playoff.

The top two finished a stroke ahead of Tom Simons, sons Scott and Brett Simons and Tyler Hyland, who finished at 117 (58-59). While the fourth player alongside the Simons family frequently changes from year to year, the Simons trio had spearheaded the winning team in each of the past two years and in 10 of the last 12.

Rounding out the top five of the championship flight were Dan Anderson, Hunter Hageman, Jordan Raben and Jonathan Reiners in fourth at 120 and John Ritzen, Micah Smith, Gregg Trepka and Beau Miskimins in fifth at 121.

After rain interrupted play in each of the past two years and canceled last year's second round, the event's 30 teams were treated to beautiful weather throughout the weekend, with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s on Saturday and the low 80s on Sunday.

The Don Beebe Golf Classic, in its 32nd year, is designed to help raise funds for Chadron State athletic scholarships.
