CHADRON, Neb. – Eight former Chadron State College athletes, plus the 1996 football team, will be inducted into the Eagles' Athletic Hall of Fame this fall. The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, September 25, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the program set to start at 7 p.m. Ticket purchase links will be available soon.

Comprising the individual CSC Hall of Fame Class of 2026 are three football players – Chance Galey, Aaron Ide and Shaine Odell – plus track and field standouts Brad Gamble and Jessica Horsley, softball players Katie Bolin Ackermann and Jamie Mazankowski Hughes and men's wrestler Jimmy Savala.

The football players concluded their careers in 2008 after the Eagles had won 35 of 39 games during a three-year span that included three conference championships, a playoff game victory each year and a top 10 national ranking each season. 

Galey, a Crawford, Nebraska native, spent three years as the starting center while the Eagles averaged 409 yards of total offense. Galey, a team captain, was both First-Team All-RMAC and Division II All-Nebraska, as well as First-Team Football Gazette and First Team Daktronics All-Region. In addition, Galey was First-Team All-RMAC Academic twice. 

Ide, who hails from Holdrege, Nebraska, was a defensive tackle who took part in 110 tackles, including 16 quarterback sacks. He was First-Team All-RMAC and All-Nebraska and Second-Team All-Region as both a junior and a senior. In addition, Ide graduated with a 3.9 grade point average, was First-Team All-RMAC Academic twice and was Second-Team Academic All-American as a senior. 

Odell, a defensive end from Camp Cook, S.D., joined the Eagles as a junior and started all 13 games in both 2007 and 2008. Odell had 89 tackles, 27 of them for loss, including 14 sacks over his two years as an Eagle. Odell earned First-Team All-RMAC and Second-Team All-Region during his senior season and was First-Team Academic All-District twice. Odell also was the Eagles' heavyweight wrestler for three years, qualifying for the NCAA National Tournament in 2007.

Gamble only competed for Chadron State for one year, but made it count. After joining CSC as a graduate transfer from Hastings College, Gamble set the national championship indoor meet record while winning a national title in the heptathlon with 5,456 points, then was the NCAA runner-up in the decathlon (7,177 points) at the outdoor meet that season. Both point totals remain Chadron State records. 

Gamble has followed up his competitive success with a decorated coaching career. He led the Eagles track and field program from 2014-17, coaching athletes that won six national championships plus a women's outdoor RMAC championship. Gamble then spent eight seasons as the head coach at Colorado Mesa University and is now an assistant at the University of Idaho (DI).

Horsley placed 15 times in the throws at RMAC Meets, topped by a great senior season in 2011 when she set an RMAC record of 63 feet, 1.5 inches while winning the weight throw at the indoor meet. Horsley also won the hammer throw at the RMAC Outdoor Meet and went on to become an All-American when she won the silver medal at nationals with a career-best 189-1. During her career, Horsley broke the hammer and weight throw school records and had six other top three RMAC places.

Katie Bolin and Jamie Mazankowski will go into the CSC Hall of Fame together after they were teammates at both CSC and Kearney High School. Bolin had a .363 career batting average, hitting .349 or better in three different seasons, while clobbering 37 home runs, still second on the Eagles' all-time list. 

Mazankowski's career was topped by a great senior season in 2011. That's when she had a team-high 63 hits and hit .409.  She was placed on the Daktronics Central Region First Team and was RMAC All-Academic First-Team that season.   

Both women, now Katie Ackermann and Jamie Hughes, live in Kearney and each have three children. Ackermann is the head softball coach at the University of Nebraska-Kearney and Hughes is a nurse at Kearney Regional Hospital.   

Representing the CSC men's wrestling program will be Jimmy Savala, one of CSC's 10 four-time national qualifiers. He finished his career with a 73-23 record. Savala went 30-13 as a sophomore, setting the team record of 133 takedowns and winning nearly a third of his matches by major decisions. As a senior, he finished seventh at 141 pounds to earn All-American honors and had a 26-8 season record. After graduating, he helped coach the Eagles two more years and earned a master's degree.     

The 1996 football team was Chadron State's first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champion. Chadron State finished 10-2 with an 8-1 RMAC record, holding four RMAC opponents to six points or fewer.
