SEWARD, Neb. – Seven individuals plus two relays competed for Chadron State at the Concordia Last Chance Twilight Meet held at Concordia University (Neb.) in Seward, while decathlete
Courtney Williams wrapped up a two-day competition at the Franson Last Chance in California on Friday.
Williams placed third out of 12 participants in the decathlon, but his final score of 6,618 points was not better than his season-best of 6,734 from the RMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. With that score from the conference meet, Williams currently ranks 22nd in Division II pending other results from this weekend.
In individual events, Williams won the decathlon portion of the 110 hurdles (14.83 seconds) and placed second in the 100 (10.99 seconds), 400 (49.27 seconds), and javelin (49.01m). RMAC champion Evan Atkin of UCCS won Thursday and Friday's competition as well, clearing 7,000 points.
At the Concordia meet,
Shelby Ekwall hit an NCAA provisional qualifier in the women's shot put, improving with a heave of 14.13 meters (46-4.25) that will be No. 31 in Division II pending other results around the country.
Both men's relays took down event wins, but were in the same boat as Ekwall in that they hit NCAA provisional qualification marks but aren't currently within the top cutoff of the qualification field.
The 4x100 relay of
Esosa Iyengunmwena,
Ayden Hartzell,
Ryan Clapper and
Joshua St. Jean ran a time of 40.47 seconds, equalling their season-best from the first outdoor meet of the season which entered the weekend at No. 39 in Division II.
The 4x400 relay of
Christopher Cormier, Clapper,
Kadin Perez and
Ayden Hartzell completed their event in 3:12.17, which is a season-best and one one-hundredth of a second shy of the Chadron State school record from 2014. That mark places the Eagles at No. 45 in Division II.
Sydney Alles placed third at the meet with a hammer throw of 50.64 meters (166-1).
Augustin Chiang took third in both the 100 (10.82 seconds) and 200 meters (22.72 seconds). RMAC champion
Tavion Leatherdale competed in the discus, but did not record a mark.
Many of the same competitors will also compete at Saturday's Loper Twilight Meet hosted by Nebraska Kearney on Saturday.
