Biography
One of the Eagles’ all-time best throwers and she also ranks with the best in the RMAC…Entering her senior season, she’s placed 14 times at RMAC Meets, holds the school record in the discus and has qualified for the National Indoor Meet once in the shot put and for the National Outdoor Meet once in the shot and three times in the discus …Enters the 2014 season with career bests of 46-6 in the shot and 54-11 ¼ in the weight throw indoors and bests of 46-2 ½ in the shot, the school record of 159-8 in the discus and 159-0 in the hammer throw…In 2013, she was second in both the shot put (44-10 ½) and the weight throw (53-5) at the RMAC Indoor Meet, then won the discus (155-10) and was third in both the shot (42-11 ½) and the hammer (156-3) at the outdoor meet…In 2012, Alyssa placed fifth in the shot (42-1 ½ ) and third in the weight throw (51-4 ½) at the RMAC Indoor Meet and was fifth in the shot (43-5 ¾) and second in both the discus (151-0) and the hammer (159-0) at the outdoor meet…Because of a knee injury, it took her two years to use her first year of college eligibility….She had an exceptional indoor season as a true freshman in 2010, hitting 44-1 ½ in the shot and 46-11 in the weight…Besides that, she high jumped 5-1 ¾ after leading the CSC volleyball team in kills and blocks…But she suffered a torn ACL during the opening meet of the 2010 outdoor season, ending her volleyball and high jumping careers…The injury interrupted but did not curtail her throwing career to much degree…She skipped the 2011 indoor season to even her eligibility, then had some exceptional performances at the end of the 2011 outdoor campaign…She won the discus at at the Colorado Mines Quadrangular (147-7) in late April and again at the RMAC Meet (143-7)…But the best was yet to come…While participating in “last chance” meets on May 13-14, she had school-record marks of 156-5 and 157-6 in the discus, qualifying her for the National Outdoor Meet…She returned to the National Outdoor Meet in the discus in 2012, went to the indoor meet in the shot last year and to the National Outdoor Meet in both the shot and discus last spring…Another highlight last season was matching the school record she had set in 2012 by throwing the discus 159-8 again…As a senior at Gordon-Rushville High in 2009, Alyssa won the Class C discus at the Nebraska State Meet at 143-3 and was third in the shot at 43-3…She also starred in both volleyball and basketball for the Mustangs …A sports and recreation major who has a 3.36 GPA after four years at CSC…Daughter of Rod and Jackie Norton…Born April 3, 1991.
