Olympic gold medalist Slay set to help with CSC wrestling camp

CHADRON – Chadron State College wrestling head coach Brett Hunter announced Tuesday that Olympic gold medalist and National Freestyle Resident Coach for USA Wrestling Brandon Slay will be a guest coach at the Chadron State College high school wrestling camp this summer. The camp is scheduled for June 21-24.

Slay won the gold medal in the 76 kilogram (167 pound) weight class at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. In pool play, Slay defeated nine-time world gold medalist and three-time Olympic gold medalist Buvaisar Saitiev. Slay won three Texas state championships in high school before competing four years at the University of Pennsylvania. He was the national runner-up in 1997 and 1998, and a two-time NCAA All-American.

Slay, who will coach technique sessions at the CSC camp to wrestlers and coaches, currently works as the assistant national freestyle wrestling coach at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
