Herl began her 2016-17 season on Saturday in a big way. She went nearly nine feet over her previous personal best, throwing 21.36 meters at the Black Hills State University Yellow Jacket Holiday Classic in Spearfish, South Dakota. Herl became just the fifth woman in Division II history to throw over 70 feet, putting herself at 12th on the all-time lists.  She is only the second collegiate woman this season at any NCAA level to go over the 70-foot mark as well.
