Box Score CHADRON – South Dakota Mines shot 52 percent from the field, including 10 of 20 from 3-point range, here Tuesday night while downing Chadron State 78-65 in a non-conference women's basketball game.

After his team had lost its first four games, the win was the first for the Hardrockers under new head coach Ryan Larson.

Mines took a 5-4 lead on Alexis Long's layup with two minutes gone in the game and never trailed again. The Hardrockers were ahead 37-25 at halftime and built the margin to as many as 17 in the first four minutes of the second half.

A gallant effort led by Chadron State seniors
Kattie Ranta and
Kayli Rageth helped the Eagles cut the difference to 69-63 with 4:36 to play. However, the Hardrockers tallied nine of the game's final 11 points to take the verdict.

Mines had balanced scoring. Freshmen Krista Showalter and Megan Rohrer each scored 12 points. Long, a sophomore, finished with 11, her classmate Brianna Huggins added 10, another freshman, Anne Soenneker, contributed nine and Renae Waters, the only senior on the roster, scored eight.

Both Ranta and Rageth scored 17 for the Eagles while
Greer Babbe added 14 and
Dallas Shaw nine. Ranta and Shaw shared game-rebounding honors with 10, leading their team to a 40-33 edge off the glass.

While Mines sank 28 of 54 shots from the field, the Eagles hit 19 of 56 for 34 percent and were five of 16 from 3-point range. CSC took up some of the slack at the free throw line, making 22 of 33 shots while the Hardrockers were 12-23.

The Eagles, now 0-4, are idle until opening conference play at Colorado Mesa on Dec. 6.
