Box Score 2 CHADRON – The Chadron State College softball team shook off a disappointing defensive performance in its first game by rebounding in Saturday's finale to split its doubleheader with the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.
In the first game, the Eagles committed five errors that resulted in 10 runs in the Mountain Lions' 12-2 victory.
However, CSC rebounded nicely in the second contest behind the strong pitching of
Kylee Polsley in its 5-0 victory.
The Eagles, now 4-7 overall and 3-3 in the RMAC, will host UCCS (9-5-1, 4-1 RMAC) in another doubleheader Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.
In the first game, UCCS took full advantage of the Eagles' miscues and led 6-0 after the first inning.
The Eagles managed to have just four hits in the contest off pitcher Becca Smith, who struck out nine batters.
Chadron State's only runs came after
Danielle L'Argent blasted a two-run home run down the left field line that scored
Ashlynn Marino in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Polsley helped guide the Eagles to their win in the second game by tossing her second-straight complete game shutout. She scattered four hits and UCCS' only scoring threat was thrown out at home by centerfielder
Rebecca Wetsch in the first inning.
The Eagles led 1-0 after
Katie Londo hit a single to left field that scored
Nikki Ritzen, who went 2-for-3, in the first inning.
Things remained tight until Chadron State scored four insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth off two UCCS errors.
Amy Schartz,
Rebekah Anthony and
Taylor Cobb all hit singles and Cobb's blooper to right field drove in the game's final two runs.
