Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Chadron State College softball team snapped their recent six-game losing skid with a strong 11-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Black Hills State in five innings Friday in Las Vegas, N.M.
The Eagles (10-14, 8-9 RMAC) also played New Mexico Highlands, losing 3-2.
Chadron State jumped on the Yellow Jackets early Friday afternoon. The Eagles scored six runs in the first inning and added four more in the fourth to cruise to the easy win.
In the Eagles' big first inning,
Katie Londo hit a 2-run home run and
Sarah Knudsen, who was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle, added an RBI double.
Also in the first,
Nikki Ritzen, who scored a team-high two runs, drove in a run.
Breeze Phillips and
Ashlynn Marino also drove in runs for CSC.
The Eagles' offense went quiet in the second and third innings but
Rebecca Wetsch added to CSC's lead when she hit a grand slam in the top of the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Kylee Polsley earned the complete game win. In five innings, Polsley allowed just four hits and struck out five.
In the first game, Chadron State struggled to get runners across the plate. Eight runners were stranded on base, including four in scoring position.
Marino led the offense with two hits, including a double, and
Amy Schartz also had a double.
Aryn Grywusiewicz suffered the tough-luck loss. In seven innings of work, she scattered six hits but Highlands scored three runs off two home runs.
