The Chadron State College softball team is due to host Nebraska-Kearney in a double-header today, starting at noon.
CSC coach Rob Stack said he plans to give a number of the alternates a chance to play against the Lopers, who are 3-7 so far this season.
“You never know when you will need someone to help out,” Stack said. “We've already had a lot of players seeing action, but I want some of those who haven't played quite as much to have a chance to play in these games so they'll be better prepared when we need them.”
The Eagles, who are 6-7 for the season after winning four of their last five games, also will play this weekend at Black Hills State in Spearfish. Western New Mexico also will be there. Each team will play four games in two days.
The games were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but because of a weather forecast that says wintery weather may occur on Sunday, the schedule has been moved up to Friday and Saturday.
Black Hills State athletic director Jhett Alberts said the new schedule has Chadron State playing Western New Mexico at 11 a.m. Friday, following by Black Hills State and Western New Mexico at 1 p.m. and Black Hills State and Chadron at 3.
The schedule will be the same on Saturday except the first game between Chadron and Western New Mexico will begin at 10 o'clock.
