Box Score 2 CHADRON – The Chadron State Eagles split a non-conference double header with the University of Nebraska Kearney today in Chadron.
During the first game the Eagles won 3-0 behind a strong pitching performance by
Breeze Phillips. Phillips, a freshman, pitched seven shutout innings, while only allowing five hits and striking out six batters.
The second game was more of a scoring fest as UNK won 9-8 with some late game heroics. Down 7-3 in the sixth inning the Lopers managed to score four runs in the sixth to tie the game.
The Eagles answered by scoring one run in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-7 lead, however, the Lopers added two runs in the top of the seventh inning and the Eagles were unable to match it.
Shea Graham and
Casey Polk led the way with two hits apiece for the Eagles during the second game.
The split moves the Eagles record to 8-9 on the season.
The Eagles will play in a three-team pod this weekend in Spearfish, S.D., Friday and Saturday against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foes Black Hills State and Western New Mexico.
