CSC softball team controls its own destiny

CHADRON – The Chadron State softball team controls its own destiny for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference playoffs this weekend when it travels to Grand Junction, Colo., to face Colorado Mesa in a four-game series.

Saturday's double header begins at noon and Sunday's games begin at 11 a.m.

The Eagles (14-20, 12-15 RMAC) are currently eighth in the conference standings and are battling for the final playoff spot with Western New Mexico. Currently, CSC has a two-game lead over the Mustangs based on conference winning percentage.

“We have to take care of ourselves and focus on the task at hand,” CSC head coach Rob Stack said. “We have to play our best and just take it one game at a time.”

Western New Mexico (17-28, 14-20 RMAC) has lost three of its last four games. The Mustangs host a four-game series with Adams State this weekend in Silver City, N.M.

The Eagles have been led by the strong play of Rebecca Wetsch, who is batting .353 with five home runs and 22 RBIs.

Katie Londo is also having a solid season for the Eagles, batting .336 with 15 RBIs.

Colorado Mesa (22-15-1, 20-11-10) is led by Makayla Kovac, who is batting .406 with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs.

The Mavericks' leading pitcher is Jessica Severinsen, who is 16-5 on the season with a 2.50 earned run average.

The RMAC playoffs will begin May 2 at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.
