CHADRON - Three teams in need of some wins if they are to reach the postseason playoffs in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference will meet in Chadron this weekend for a trio of doubleheaders.
The visitors will be Metro State of Denver and Fort Lewis College of Durango, Colo.
Three games will be played both Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m. The Eagles will play in the first and last games both days. They'll tangle with Metro in the first game on Saturday and with Fort Lewis in the opener on Sunday.
After going 1-3 last weekend, the Eagles are 10-16 overall and 8-11 in the conference, good for eighth place in the standings with 16 games remaining on the regular-season schedule, including four this weekend.
Metro State is 12-17 for the season and 5-12 in the RMAC. Fort Lewis is 7-18 and 5-15.
After getting off to a 7-3 start in the RMAC, Chadron State has won just one of its last nine conference games. However, the Eagles are still in contention to be one of the eight teams to reach the playoffs.
Fort Lewis has won just two of its last 12 games, while Metro State took three of four games from Western New Mexico last weekend, but is still behind the Eagles in the playoff picture.
The Roadrunners lost seven straight conference games in early March, then went 2-4 in RMAC games before getting three wins last weekend.
Metro's leaders include Susie Oury, a sophomore shortstop who ranks third in the RMAC in hitting with 40 hits in 85 at bats for a .471 average. She has clubbed six homers.
Fort Lewis' leading hitter is third baseman Chelsea Rodriguez, who has a .431 average on 28 hits in 65 trips to the plate. She also has walked 20 times this spring, helping her to a .575 on base percentage.
Freshman outfielder
Shea Graham leads Chadron State in hitting with a .365 average. She has 19 hits in 52 at bats. Four more Eagles with at least 50 at bats also are hitting at over 300. They are
Katie Londo at .325,
Rebecca Wetsch at .323,
Amy Schartz at .308 and
Amanda Einspahr at .306.
