Box Score STERLING, Colo. – Colorado Mines scored seven runs in the sixth inning to claim an 11-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State in the conference opener Saturday.
The Eagles (3-8 overall, 0-1 RMAC) scored the first run of the game when
Katelyn Kruger earned a walk with bases loaded, bringing in Rebecca Anthony.
Mines stepped up with an impressive .424 batting average, connecting on 14 hits of 33 plate appearances. The Orediggers jumped in front with two runs in the third inning and added two more in fifth. In the sixth inning, Mines took control of the game rounding up a whopping seven runs to separate the score 11-1.
Chadron State's
Courtney Lecher responded with a homer in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs, but that was not enough to close the 8-run rule margin.
Along with Letcher's homer, the Eagles charted four more hits for the game from
Sarah Knudsen,
Rebecca Wetsch,
Casey Polk, and
Shea Graham.
In the circle,
Aryn Grywusiewicz struck out four and
Breeze Phillips added one more.
The Eagles faced the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs for the second game of the day which was halted in the third inning due to harsh weather conditions. The game was tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the third.
Competition for the remainder of the pod will resume on Sunday, weather permitting.
