CHADRON – The Chadron State College softball team will look to get back on the winning track Friday and Saturday when it plays a four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series at Metro State in Denver.
The games were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Denver but poor weather forecasts moved the games to Friday and Saturday. The two RMAC rivals will play three games Friday (10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.) and one game Saturdy at 11 a.m.
Poor weather has followed the Eagles, 3-8 overall and 0-1 in the RMAC, as of late. They were set to host a three-team pod last weekend in Chadron but poor weather forecasts forced the teams to play in Sterling, Colo. Chadron State played the opener Saturday – an 11-3 setback to Colorado School of Mines – but the final four games of the pod were canceled after more than four inches of snow covered Pioneer Park.
Metro State enters the series, its home-opener, with plenty of momentum. The Roadrunners swept Colorado Mesa last Sunday in Grand Junction, Colo., to improve to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the RMAC.
Metro State's offense is humming. The Roadrunners have scored 79 runs in just nine games and they hit .346 as a team. Kaylynn Harmon leads Metro State with a batting average of .500, while two others are at .438 or higher. Pitcher Cassidy Smith is 4-0 in the circle and has a 4.11 earned run average.
Three CSC players are hitting above .300.
Rebecca Wetsch leads the team with a batting average of .357, but
Katelyn Kruger at .348 and
Jessica Eatmon at .323 aren't far behind. Kruger also leads the team with runs batted in with eight.
