Eagles strike Roadrunners

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 DENVER – Two grand slams proved to be the difference as the Chadron State College softball won two of three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games with Metro State Friday.

The long ball was kind to the Eagles Friday as seven different players hit 10 home runs.

The score was tied 4-4 as the Eagles went into extra innings in the day's opener. Rebecca Wetsch nailed a grand slam in the ninth inning to bring home four runs. Katie Londo followed that performance with a homer to lead the Eagles to a 9-5 victory.

In the circle, Aryn Grywusiewicz struck out five and allowed 11 hits.

In the second game, Courtney Lecher hit a homer in the second inning to lead the Eagles 2-0.

Metro State tied things 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Taylor Cobb hammered the Eagles' second grand slam of the day to separate the score 9-3. The Roadrunners would only score one run in the top of the seventh as CSC secured its second-consecutive win.

Kylee Polsley tossed a complete game and struck out three to lead the Eagles in the circle.

In the final game, the Roadrunners took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning but CSC's Sarah Knudsen hit a homer in the bottom of the third to close the margin 2-3.

However, Metro State combined to score seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to claim an 11-3 victory by the 8-run rule.

Chadron State will play Metro State again tomorrow at 11 a.m.
