The Chadron State College softball team will look to keep its winning ways when it hosts Adams State, the top team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Grizzlies, who are 11-10 overall and 10-2 in the RMAC, will play the Eagles in a pair of doubleheaders Sunday and Monday. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday but with poor weather forecasted for Saturday, Chadron State College officials decided to move the games to Sunday and Monday. First pitch is set for noon on Sunday. Monday's games get underway at 11 a.m.
Chadron State, now 8-12 overall and 5-3 in the conference, enters the weekend series with plenty of momentum after winning three of four games at Regis. All three wins belonged to pitcher
Kylee Polsley, who tossed 21 innings and allowed just three runs.
Polsley got her first win Sunday in a 5-3 victory and then she tossed back-to-back shutouts the following day. For the weekend, Polsley struck out 13 batters and walked only four.
Through 20 games this season, the CSC offense is being carried by its underclassmen. The top five batting averages – all of them are over .300 – belong to three freshmen, a sophomore and a junior, and junior
Rebecca Wetsch leads the team with 10 runs driven in.
Adams State also enters the weekend series with plenty of momentum. The Grizzlies lost eight of their first 10 games but once they entered conference play they've been on a tear, winning 10 of 12 contests. A big reason for the Grizzlies' success in the RMAC is they jump on their opponents early, outscoring the opponent 24-7 in the opening frame.
Erika Ecsedy hits .431 to lead the team. She's also scored 22 runs, driven in 24 runs and drawn 15 walks.
Pitchers Kelsey Sellars and Kaycee Prevedel are responsible for nine of Adams State's 12 wins. Sellars leads the team with five and she's also struck out 36 batters.
