Box Score 2 CHADRON – The Chadron State College softball team hit five home runs and received solid pitching en route to their doubleheader sweep over Adams State University Sunday at the CSC Softball Field.
The Eagles, now 10-12 overall and 7-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, hit two home runs in a 3-1 victory in the day's opener and they blasted three more in their 11-8 win in the finale over the RMAC-leading Grizzlies.
The two teams will play another doubleheader Monday. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
In the opening game, Adams State (12-12, 10-4 RMAC) scored in the top of the first inning but
Katie Londo it in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to left field.
Following two scoreless frames,
Sarah Knudsen hit a two-run home run that put CSC up 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
The Grizzlies answered with a double in the top of the sixth but
Kylee Polsley got the final five batters out in order to secure her sixth win of the season. Polsley, who tossed two shutouts against Regis last week, scattered five hits and struck out five in the contest.
Knudsen and Bauer each had two hits apiece to lead the CSC offense.
Like the first game, Adams State jumped on the Eagles early and led 4-0 after two innings. However,
Taylor Bauer hit a three-run home run and
Courtney Lecher followed with a two-run shot to put the Eagles up 5-4 heading into the third.
The Grizzlies grabbed the lead back in the third inning by scoring two runs but
Katelyn Kruger blasted a single up the middle in the bottom of the frame to put CSC up 7-6.
After Adams State failed to score in the top of the fourth, the Eagles scored three runs in their half of the inning despite recording only one hit.
Jessica Eatmon's single down the left field line scored Lecher and later in the inning Eatmon scored on an infield error and
Katie Londo crossed home plate following a wild pitch.
The Grizzlies scored two runs in the top of the sixth but the Eagles put the game away when Londo, who went 3-for-4 with four runs scored, hit a solo home run.
Aryn Grywusiewicz got the win in the circle by going five innings. She scattered seven hits and allowed four earned runs. Polsley picked up the save in two innings of work.
