Adams State hits past Chadron State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHADRON – The Adams State softball team had 25 hits in two games and never trailed in either of them en route to their 7-5 and 10-5 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victories over Chadron State College Monday afternoon at the CSC Softball Field.

The Grizzlies improve to 14-12 overall and 12-4 in the RMAC. Chadron State, which swept the Grizzlies during Sunday's doubleheader, drops to 10-14 and 7-5 in the league.

In the first game, all but one Adams State position player recorded a hit and Erica Haugum and Jennie Archambault provided much of the damage by hitting three-run home runs. Haugum hit her homer in the top of the first and Archambault hit her long ball in the fifth.

The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Sarah Knudsen's single plated Shea Graham. They added three more runs in the sixth when Katie Londo hit a two-run home run and Knudsen doubled in Taylor Bauer to cut the Grizzlies' lead to 6-4.

Adams State added an insurance run when Archambault hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh to score Mara Dunlap.

Chadron State also scored a run in the seventh when Jessica Eatmon's double scored Rebecca Wetsch but Morgan McWilliams got the final three CSC batters out in order to secure Adams State's victory.

Adams State never trailed in the second game. The Grizzlies scored four runs in the first inning – they received a three-run home run for the second-straight game – but the Eagles scratched two runs across in the bottom of the frame following a costly infield error.

The Grizzlies responded with three runs in the second and two more in the fourth and McWilliams tossed two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.

For CSC, Katelyn Kruger and Wetsch recorded RBI singles and Londo hit a solo home run – her fourth in four games.
