Eagles split with Rangers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER – The Chadron State College softball team got back on the winning track Sunday during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader with Regis University.

The Eagles, who entered Sunday's games with three straight losses, picked up a 5-3 victory over Regis in the opening game before falling 9-1 in the day's finale.

The two squads will play two more games Monday at noon and 2 p.m.

Chadron State (6-12, 3-3 RMAC) was also scheduled to play two games at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Tuesday but those games have been postponed to a later date because of scheduling conflicts, head coach Dr. Robert Stack said.

In Sunday's first game, Chadron State pitcher Kylee Polsley tossed a complete game six-hitter and the Eagles scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to claim a 5-3 win.

The Rangers (7-12, 6-3 RMAC) struck first in the opening frame but the Eagles added two runs in the second when Courtney Lecher hit a two-run double to center field.

Regis answered with two runs in the bottom of the third but Morgan Wilhelm scored after a bases loaded walk in the top of the fourth to tie things up at 3-3.

Following two scoreless innings, Chadron State scored two runs in the seventh off Regis miscues. Jessica Eatmon reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Sarah Knudsen to score on a bad throw. Katelyn Kruger drew a walk in the Eagles' next at-bat and Rebecca Wetsch scored to give CSC a 5-3 advantage.

The Rangers were unable to mount a comeback as Polsley forced them into three straight outs in the bottom of the seventh.

In the second game, Regis scored two runs in the first and added six more in the second to cruise to their 9-1 win in five innings.

Kruger and Wetsch both hit doubles to provide the only hits for the Eagles.
