Box Score 2 SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Chadron State College softball team won both its games Saturday, defeating Colorado Mesa 4-3, followed by a 6-2 victory over Black Hills State.
The Eagles looked sharp at the start of the first game where they capitalized on two Maverick errors to lead 3-0 in the third inning.
Sarah Knudsen and
Courtney Lecher scored unearned runs and
Rebecca Wetsch's run was earned.
Colorado Mesa responded with a series of strong hitting to tie thing up scoring three runs in the fifth.
Neither team scored until the bottom of the seventh inning when Wetsch singled and Knudsen scored to win the game.
The Eagles were led by the strong pitching efforts of
Kylee Polsley who struck out six and only allowed six hits.
In the second game of the day, Chadron State tallied rallied for a 6-2 victory Black Hill State Saturday.
The Eagles started things off right in the first inning as they scored three runs on three hits. Wetsch and
Katie Londo scored on a pair of double hits and
Jessica Eatmon added another run when
Taylor Bauer walked.
In the second inning, Knudsen busted a homerun and added another run in the top of the fourth after she was hit by a pitch.
Zoe Humphries rounded out the scoring in the third when she hit home plate after a double from Bauer.
In the circle,
Aryn Grywusiewicz allowed only six hits while striking out one.
The Eagles are back in action next Tuesday as they take on the University of Nebraska-Kearney in Kearney.
