Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. – The Chadron State softball team split the final doubleheader in a four-game series vs. Colorado State University-Pueblo Sunday afternoon.
The ThunderWolves came out on top 7-4 in the opener, while the Eagles managed a 4-0 shutout in the final game.
The two teams flip-flopped efforts on Sunday as the ThunderWolves rode the strong pitching of Samantha Avii in the opener while the Eagles got a stellar performance from ÂÂ
Sarah Knudsen who led them to the win.
In game one, CSU-Pueblo jumped on the board early, scoring five runs, including two home runs, in the first three innings. The ThuderWolves added a pair of runs in the fifth to lead, 7-3.
The Eagles capitalized on CSU-Pueblo errors rounding up two unearned runs in the second and the seventh innings and
Rebecca Wetsch and
Katie Londo nailed homers in the fourth inning. However, it wasn't enough to close the gap.
Chadron State rebounded nicely in game two with a solid all-around performance as
Aryn Grywusiewicz fired a complete-game shutout, scattering three hits and striking out one.
Knudsen blasted a homer in the first inning and added another run in the third inning. She also brought home
Shea Graham in the fourth for the final run of the game. Graham also doubled in the fourth as
Caroline Johnson rounded home plate.
For the game, the Eagles had nine hits.
Chadron State is back in action Saturday when it hosts New Mexico Highlands in a four-game series. The first pitch is scheduled for Saturday at noon.
