Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Metro State softball team scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth en route to its 9-1 victory over Chadron State College during the second day of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Softball Championship.
The loss eliminates Chadron State from the conference tournament. The Eagles end their season with a record of 28-23, a school record for victories in a season.
The two teams went scoreless the first two innings but Chadron State's
Shea Graham managed to put the Eagles up 1-0 in the top of the third when
Rebecca Wetsch roped a single down the left field line.
The Roadrunners answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame and they added one more in the bottom of the fifth before putting the game away with their big sixth inning. Metro State strung together two early singles in the sixth to set the table for Dani Sandel's three run triple.
Kelsey Tillery's double to center field scored Sandel to end the game.
Chadron State's offense struggled. The Eagles' only hit was Wetsch's RBI single and Metro State's Cassidy Smith had to throw just 70 pitches in her complete game victory.
