Box Score 2 ALAMOSA, Colo. –
Rebekah Anthony capped off a Chadron State College rally in the seventh inning with a RBI single to drive in the final score of the game against Adams State University Saturday afternoon in Alamosa. The Eagles defeated the Grizzlies 12-11 following a five-run comeback in the top of the seventh to recapture the lead and even the series against the sixth-ranked team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. ASU took game one with a score of 11-4. The two teams play two more games Sunday, with the first pitch set for 11 a.m.
The Eagles (13-29, 13-17 RMAC) found themselves in a hole early as the Grizzlies (19-19, 17-15 RMAC) took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning. Chadron recaptured the lead, 4-3, through the third inning by means of an RBI triple by
Jessica Eatmon, a RBI sacrifice fly ball by
Taylor Bauer and a double by
Courtney Lecher.
Chadron State later dropped the lead following a three-run inning in the bottom of the fifth by Adams State. CSC answered by loading the bases and Anthony hitting a two-run single through the right side, taking the lead 7-6.
Adams State looked like it was going to ensure the win when Erika Ecsedy slammed a three-run home run to push the lead to 11-7. In the top of the seventh,
Casey Polk led off with a single, followed by two walks to load the bases. Eatmon drove in two runs to make the game a one-run game, then
Shea Graham reached by means of an error, bringing Eatmon home for the tie. Two batters later Anthony drove in Graham, clinching the victory for Chadron State.
Eatmon was a perfect four for four in the second game to lead CSC. Eatmon has a single, a triple, and two doubles, including the game-tying two-run double in the seventh. Anthony finished the game with three RBIs on two hits.
April Riggins led the way for the Grizzlies in game one, going four for four hitting with three RBIs and a home run.
With the win Chadron State College stays in the eighth spot in the RMAC. CSC owns a half-game lead over the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and a game lead on Fort Lewis College. The top eight teams in the conference compete in the RMAC Tournament at the end of the season.
