Chadron men fall in shootout

LAS VEGAS, N.M. -- January 15, 2016 -- The Chadron State men (5-9, 3-7 RMAC) hung with the top team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for a good part of 40 minutes tonight on the road, but ultimately fell 93-80 at New Mexico Highlands (9-7, 8-2 RMAC).

NMHU went up 15-6 early on a pair of threes by Jonathon Mines and James Healy, but CSC's Warren Gordon and Myles Robinson each put up a pair of their own to rally the Eagles back to a 21-all tie at 11:26 in the first half.

Kendrick Nichols of Highlands drilled straight three-pointers to hold the Eagles at bay for the rest of the second, and the Cowboys went into the half with a 48-42 advantage.

Guards Sharif Black and Warren Gordon combined to score the Eagles' first 14 points after the break, as CSC battled back to take a one-point lead at 12:57 in the second half.

A turning point came after the second-half media timeout, as Nichols rattled off a three-point play followed by two additional field goals to send the Cowboys out to a 67-61 lead. From there the Eagles could not hold on, as NMHU hit seven of their last 10 field goals to run out to the 13-point win.

Black and Gordon each finished with 20 points. Robinson had a career-high at 17 points.

Matt Reader led Chadron State with eight rebounds.

For the home team, Marlon Robinson was 9-of-15 from the floor, scoring a game-high 25 points and leading the field with 11 rebounds. He also racked up four assists, three blocked shots, and a steal.

CSC gets a reasonable shot to break its four-game skid tomorrow night, as the Eagles visit Western New Mexico University (0-15, 0-10 RMAC) for a Saturday night tilt at approximately 7:30 p.m.
