CHADRON, Neb. -- January 27, 2016 -- Both Chadron State basketball teams will be playing RMAC games in southwestern Colorado this weekend. They'll visit Adams State in Alamosa on Friday night and Fort Lewis in Durango on Saturday night.
The Adams State women have struggled. They are 2-14 overall and 1-11 in the conference. Their lone RMAC win is a 71-65 decision at Western State. Lena Jacox leads the Lady Grizzlies at 13 points a game. She has sunk 43 of 90 3-point shots.
The Adams State men are 8-10 for the season and 7-6 in league play, tying them for the eighth best record in the RMAC.
The Grizzlies' Shakir Smith, a 6-1 senior, is averaging 22.2 points a game, tops among the guards in the conference. He has made 52 of 130 treys and is 84 of 98 from the free throw line. He has scored at least 34 points five times this season, led by a 39-point production.
The Fort Lewis women are 11-7 overall and 7-6 in the RMAC, for the eighth best record in the conference Astrea Reed at 12.3 points a game and Dallas Dickerson at 11.6 lead the team in scoring.
The Fort Lewis men are atop the RMAC standings with a 15-3 season record and a 10-3 conference mark. They are 20th in the latest NCAA Division II national poll.
The Skyhawks have four players scoring in double figures, led by Josh Blaylock at 15.4 points a game. He's followed by Rasmus Bach at 13.4, Will Morse at 12.8 and Cade Kloster at 11.9.
The CSC women are 6-11 for the season and 6-7 in the RMAC. They currently trail Fort Lewis by one game to crack into the all-important top eight for conference tournament consideration. The Eagle women are currently the second-best shooters in the RMAC, hitting 40.3% of their attempts from the field.
Maka Daysh now leads the team, as well as the conference, in shooting percentage, making good on 57.2% of her attempts.
The men also are 6-11 overall and have a 4-9 conference log. All but two of their remaining nine opponents are in the top half of the RMAC standings currently. Their Saturday matchup with No. 20 Fort Lewis pits the Eagles, who turn the ball over second-least in the league, against the number one team in the conference for turnover margin. Junior guard
