DURANGO, Colo, -- January 30, 2016 -- Sophomore guard
Sharif Black had his fourth 20-point game in six tries, adding three assists and four rebounds, but the individual effort couldn't put Chadron State College (6-13, 4-11 RMAC) over the top as NABC No. 20 Fort Lewis (17-3, 12-3 RMAC) defended home court with a 90-72 win.
Black's 21 points came on 9-of-10 free throw shooting and 2 of 3 three-point accuracy.
CSC raced out to an 18-9 lead over their nationally-ranked opponent in the first five minutes, and hung in for nearly all of the first half. The lead changed hands eight times and the contest was knotted on six different occasions.
The Skyhawks closed the first half on a 15-4 run, taking just over six minutes to stretch their lead as wide as it needed to go.
Joshua Blaylock had six points for FLC in just 2:18 before the break. He finished with 25 points to lead both teams.
In the second half,
Warren Gordon took a defensive board coast-to-coast at 6:38 for a fast break layup which closed it to 73-65. However, that was as close as the Eagles could keep it.
CSC gets little relief in the schedule as Colorado Christian and Colorado Mines visit Chadron this weekend. Both teams remain very much in postseason contention.
